I have a lot of ideas for things to write about on here, but I don’t.
Why?
Two reasons; firstly, I’m rushing to get my first edit done and dusted (half way through now!), so that I can get the entirety of my book into someone else’s hands. I’ve shared the first 5 chapters with other people, but that’s it. I have people that I talk about the writing process with, but I don’t mention specifics, and it’s so completely bizarre to think that there is an entire, fleshed out story inside my head that no one else is privy to. This leads to a whole bunch of neuroses about whether or not anyone will like the direction I’ve taken Lucian’s story, because again, no one at all knows what happens to him apart from me!
Secondly, I have no track record. I haven’t actually published a book. I have no literary background. I have no product. I have nothing to point to and say ‘look! I CAN write, because I did it here that one time, remember?’
So essentially I’m no one, so what right do I have to say anything regarding writing? In my mind, none. Well, none apart from the book lover that we all are.
I have plenty of interesting things that I’m struggling with as I’m going through and editing my novel, but in my mind, until someone else has read everything and said, ‘you know, that wasn’t as bad as I’d expected’ then I feel I have no more right than anyone else to speak on such matters.
Also because, as I sat down to write about one of these MANY ideas, my mind went completely blank, so when I remember one of my many problems with writing and editing, I definitely will post about them.
